This is the story of before the pitiful girl was born.
In a faraway land, a princess from a neighboring country bore her husband, the prince, a baby girl. But others sought to take the child's life, so she fled the castle with her baby before collapsing and dying in a strange town. And though the young couple who took in the baby held little love for her, she became a kind girl all the same.
Two countries in the east and west had been at war for ages. The east was ruled by a greedy king, while the west was ruled by an avaricious queen.

But the war took a terrible toll, and they eventually declared a truce. The king then sent the queen a silver lamp as a gift, which she loved greatly.

In return, the queen offered either of her twin daughters to the king. And while he was happy with both, he said he would prefer the healthier one.

Thus did the daughter marry the king. And when their union was sealed, kings and queens and all people everywhere were as happy as could be.
