There is still more content, technically! Quite a bit, actually!
From a full "offline" version of the game as a book with more stories and scrapped content, to more music, development blogs, and a web novel... there's a bit more than just the game itself!
On 11/28/2024, months after the end of service, a book was released that has fully documented the entire story of the game. It's nearly 600 pages long and filled with additional content, concept art and designs and other scrapped parts that never made it into the game. Most notably, it includes some timelines and the Recollections of Dusk for all characters in the second arc as well as 10H.
The book doesn't answer a ton of the remaining questions you may have on the story (though we'll clarify a lot of things on the next page), but it's a really cool way to see a bunch of different parts of the game, new content never seen before, and even the design process of what thought went into making this.
There are only two issues.
Firstly, the book is only in Japanese as of writing this. This could eventually get an English release but it is unlikely, so... unfortunately, you'll need to pull out a translator app if you don't know Japanese and try reading it that way.
Secondly, this website will not be including any of the book content, and I will not ever add any of that content to this website. The content from the book is unique to the book and including it would be piracy; this site only will contain stuff from the game itself as preservation of the game, which there isn't a proper official way to do. Additionally, I'd rather you support the developers with buying the book than read it here! It both shows interest in the game and you'd get your own copy of an amazing piece of NieR history and merch. Below are some links to places you can potentially buy the book.
That said, the book without its sleeve looks odd...
Next, there's the topic of music. The music samples you could listen to for the third arc were all game-rip versions of the soundtrack, rather than the official one. It was neither announced nor released for months and months, so we didn't have anything other than rips of the music.
However, exactly a year and one day after the end of service, the soundtrack for the third arc was finally officially released! The music is also available on streaming.
If you want to hear a preview of the music, Square Enix has a site here that lets you, and the mastering and mixing on these tracks is superior to the game to give a better experience. The themes for Mourning Mother and Her especially are great.
Please consider purchasing a copy of the soundtrack from the Square Enix store (that link is for the NA site). You can also purchase the full soundtrack digitally on Steam.
For additional merchandise and official goods, please see the button on the footer! It will take you to a page where you can find links to various official merchandise.
With the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, a development blog has begun going over various aspects of how the game was made and part of the internal processes that went into its creation. This is being updated monthly, and can be found here. A translation of the first blog entry by community member Cabbage can be found here (backup archive link here). Definitely check this out if you're curious about the creative process!
Finally, there is one more thing... the web novel. Announced at the 15th anniversary livestream for the NieR franchise and released slowly in chapters, an additional short web novel has been released for viewing online.
The official site for the novel can be found here in Japanese. A fan translation is available on a Google document here. Please note that as of 4/30/2025, when this page was updated last, the novel was still ongoing. Source code in the webpage hints at something more for NieR Re[in]carnation but it is still unconfirmed.
